class descriptions and timeline :

LAURA DOEHLER (22nd February and 14th March)

Laura’s classes will enable us to openly and respectfully meet the perceptive field of territories and boundaries that we bring into the shared space through our bodies and histories. We will work with, pull and stretch our entanglements with these fluid, alien and intimate identities we own to viscerally explore collective sense making through gentle contact work, bodily listening and tuning practices for a new shared imagination to emerge.

SARA RUDDOCK (29th February and 28th March)

The sessions with Sara invite listening through the body, as a relational and multi-sensory practice, playing with viscerality of voice, sound, rhythm and vibration, being with potentials and many moving parts. Tending to what might open if I listen through the in-betweens and edges of my perception, and how the way I listen might change my experience. You are invited to be with questions that the practice generates for you, as well as co-creating scores/loose frames for improvising together.

ELISA VASSENA (7th and 21st March)

Playfully moving between dancing and mark-making/drawing, Elisa's classes will invite us to cultivate curiosity towards different materialities in motion. We will allow our attention to sharpen, shift and drift while engaging with the dynamic plurality of our bodies in relation to others. Imagination, imagery, and object work will be woven into the sessions as sparks for open exploration.

SOLASTALGIA by KASIA WITEK

Solastalgia is a new work by Polish-born dance artist Kasia Witek.

Drawing on Deborah Hay’s choreographic practice, the philosopher Timothy Morton’s writings on nature, and the work of Yorkshire-raised environmental artist Andy Goldsworthy, Solastalgia questions our perception of nature as “other”, inviting both performers and audience to fully experience the range of emotions the climate crisis evokes.

Leading morning class at Independent Dance between 30th May and 2 June, 10-12am

To book :

https://independentdance.co.uk/event/morning-class-elisa-vassena/2023-05-30/

Grounded in somatic and listening practices, these sessions will consist of playful guided movement improvisations, in solo and group constellations.

Concoctions of images, questions, propositions, will ignite our dancing and become our surfboards to ride the tidal waves of our attentions, intentions, desires, needs. We will tune into what~who we might be and be with each day, nurturing sensitivity and curiosity towards the multiple shifting fields of our own bodies and of those~that we encounter.

We will move, voice, mark make~draw, write, welcoming the magic that happens to us and to our experiential findings as we translate and weave them across our senses and across different languages.

This class will take place in the Research Studio.

image description: Elisa, a white person with a fringe and long brown hair tied up in a bun, is standing with her back to us on a small wooden red chair. She is wearing black trousers and a grey shirt, head slightly turned to the left, arms behind her back, right hand holding left wrist. She looks as if she feels in the right place. She is in a cosy room with a smooth wooden floor, in front of a warm grey wall with a red dado rail and in between two tall red closed doors.

Co-Leading two sessions (22nd April and 5th May) for our Screensaver Series training!

Sessions are aimed at dance professionals and people with established movement practices.

We will work towards the symmetry practices of Screensaver through different starting points drawing on and resourcing the dance in performance. We will work with touch and contact but there will always be options to work without touch.

WITHOUT QUITE KNOWING BY IRINA BALDINI

Part of Amsterdam Fringe Festival 2020.

Questioning narratives and expectations, with subtle deceptions to divert attention. We value doubt as a place of potential, and carefully inject it where the logic of systems may consolidate patterns and inhibit critical thought. We challenge givens, inviting to think (through), to listen (with) and to create one's momentary truths, impermanent shifts of perception to stimulate assertiveness and to share vulnerability.

A SPACE JOURNEY BY INGVILD ISAKSEN
May
22
to May 24

A SPACE JOURNEY BY INGVILD ISAKSEN

A Space Journey by MA student Ingvild Isaksen is the first work in her overarching project Arkivet in which she is exploring alternative methods of documenting spaces through an embodying practice of scenography, negotiating awareness between our surroundings and our own bodies. Arkivet is a growing source of material generated from these methods.

A Space Journey is a participatory scenography that invites you to embody, translate, move, and be moved by your immediate surroundings.

Through this physical and imaginary experience the work aspires to gradually create a meeting point of several spaces, around and within us. It is an intimate experience between you and the space you’ve chosen to go on the journey with, and for a brief moment to the world outside you both.

You choose the space to participate with, ideally somewhere you would like to (re) discover. The journey is done in your own company but involves a phone call to a professional phone call receiver. In order to provide this service, we ask you to start on time.

TO BOOK A JOURNEY: https://arkivet.space/

FRIDAY - SATURDAY - SUNDAY : between 3pm and 8pm (CET)

There are 12 journeys every day, first come first serve. After booking you will receive a personal link immediately, this is your ticket. When the clock hits your time, click the link and off you go. The journey starts on the hour and the link will close 15 minutes past. Due to limited capacity please try to stick to the time you book, or cancel in good time ahead.

We recommend accessing the link through a computer to best experience the journey. If you don’t receive an e-mail after booking, contact us at info@arkivet.space.

Concept, webpage scenography and text: Ingvild Isaksen
Idea development: in collaboration with Elisa Vassena.
Documenters and performers: Elisa Vassena, Maria Strand Renberg, Felipe Osorio-Guzmán and Andreas Strand Renberg

A special thanks to Eva Burgerhoudt, Sodja Lotker, Janne-Camilla Lyster, Masako Matsushita and fellow students Lasse Lilleng, Trym Flikke og Oda Holmvik Bredvold.

A Space Journey together with Arkivet: A Parallel Exploration forms Ingvild Isaksens’ Master project at Norwegian Theatre Academy, Østfold University College.
